Small Girl, Big Ideas

Celui qui a bon coeur n'est jamais sot

I believe I was meant to deal more with languages. I was a writer in high school and still have a lot of my writing up, studied multiple languages (which now means I can answer you in mangled Fren-anish-ese which is a French/Spanish/Japanese mess with the one phrase in German I remember), and am always the one who 'gets' what one is saying despite it making no sense. I stopped writing as a creative outlet years ago simply because all that beautiful teenage angst left, and no one wants to read mushy love poems about how perfectly normal and great my relationship with my husband is. I focus more now on the people I can connect with - and that's why I am so thankful for the friendships I have gotten through blogging. So thanks everyone for having these pseudo conversations with me - I've been loving it.

This scarf is one I hand knit over lunches at one of my favorite jobs I have ever had. It's a wonderful alpaca blend yarn - only issue is it rolls like crazy - but I still love it. Also - I decided I hated the ankle straps on these shoes, so I cut them off. I'm much happier now.

I should also mention that these photos are taken under a bridge in the smack darn center of a two way street in a not-so-nice area in Harrisburg. And my husband doesn't worry about me.

  2. I love that scarf Katherine and I thought you may have bought it from Anthro, but you knitted it yourself? Impressive. Also, I love the mustard cardigan and the pictures look amazing as always.

I love language too. I know a bit of French, Spanish and obviously English but no other languages except a phrase here and there. Language and writing is a beautiful thing :)

  8. Girl you best be careful! I can't believe the things I've been hearing about Harrisburg lately! So sad because just a year or so ago they were cleaning up the city but I guess they ran out of money!

My co-worker has been teaching me Spanish. I can say about three phrases so that's a plus for me! I do wish I knew more.

  13. You look gorgeous! I cannot believe you knit that scarf, it is beautiful! I am actually doing a scarf DIY for my Makeover Monday tomorrow, but it is just simple sewing, yours is so much more impressive. This background is beautiful as well, wow. Did you just use a self timer with your camera on auto? I always love to hear other bloggers tripod tips, etc, I love how your shots are so focused with the background blurred- so much to still learn about my camera! Anyway, hope you are having a beautiful Sunday!

  16. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Sherbet dress on you from ModCloth. I remember when I wrote that one post about how to wear it through all four seasons and I was surprised when you left a comment saying how you were wearing it at that very moment. I've been eye-ing (eying?) that dress for a few weeks now because of the lovely assortment of colors but you pull it off really well so I think I'll just admire it on you instead. (:

P.S. Soooo excited you are going to try the book clutch tutorial! Especially since you are going to use a dictionary... doesn't get much more nerdy chic than that. ;)

  52. I am right there with you, man I love to write. Unfortunately I might still be in the angsty-teenage-poems phase. But I'm enjoying it! I love writing on my blog sometimes, I feel that no one really needs those posts, but it's nice to get my thoughts out anyways. And I journal non-stop, sometimes more than others. Lately it's been a page+ a day!

That dress has ice cream cones on it?! Yeah just send that my way. That is probably the cutest thing I've ever seen!

This is an awesome place to take pictures! You could pass it as a cathedral in Rome or something!

  60. That is wonderful that you know or at least studied that many languages back then. I never took a language. I'm sad I didn't, but they only had Spanish and French and I wanted German and Japanese which they got rid of the year as I was signing up in a new school. . .It is sad. You look so cute.

  61. I LOVE that dress!
I am so skeptical about buying from Modcloth ever since I bought a dress and had to return it because the quality was so poor. It was misshapen and completely see through. I was so angry because I was really excited.
How do you feel about their dresses?
